UNHRC

Delegates of the Model United Nations, it is my honor to introduce the Human Rights Council (HRC) committee.

The HRC is a subsidiary body of the United Nations General Assembly and was established in 2006 to promote and protect the universal enjoyment of human rights. As one of the main UN mechanisms for human rights, the HRC is responsible for addressing violations of human rights, promoting human rights education and awareness, and providing technical assistance to states in implementing human rights norms.

The HRC is faced with a number of pressing human rights issues, including discrimination, violence against women and girls, the rights of refugees and migrants, and the right to freedom of expression, among others. As delegates of the HRC committee, you will have the opportunity to discuss and address these issues, propose solutions, and draft resolutions to promote and protect human rights for all.

DISEC

Delegates of the Model United Nations, it is my privilege to introduce the First Committee, also known as the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC).

The DISEC is one of the six main committees of the United Nations General Assembly and is responsible for promoting international peace and security through disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. It also deals with issues related to conventional arms control, as well as regional security.

The DISEC is facing a number of challenges in promoting disarmament and international security, including the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons, and the need for disarmament education. As delegates of the DISEC committee, you will have the opportunity to discuss and address these challenges, propose solutions, and draft resolutions to promote international peace and security.
